ACAAA Seminar-Key Buddhists Concepts in the Work of Hiroshi Sugimoto

Dear list members,

The Australian Centre for Asian Art and Archaeology will hold its next seminar on Tuesday 14th November 2006 at 4.00 pm - 6.00 pm at Room 202, Department of Art History and Theory, Mills Building, University of Sydney

The speaker will be Dr Noelene Lucas, Lecturer in Contemporary Art, School of Communication Arts, University of Western Sydney

Key Buddhists Concepts in the Work of Hiroshi Sugimoto
This seminar will discuss the work of the contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. My thesis is that not only are key Buddhist concepts of impermanence, dependent origination and sunyata (emptiness), embodied in the photographic installations of Hiroshi Sugimoto, but a Zen meditation-like experience can be gained through the encounter with the work, and this is an experience that is built into the work.

Please contact Gabrielle Ewington, Administrator ACAAA on 0428 130 948 should you require any further information.

Kind regards,
AABS Executive
