Art Gallery of NSW

The Art Gallery of New South Wales runs a year long lecture series on Asian art which includes Buddhist topics. The 2007 course covers the theme of literature and legend in the art of the Middle East, India, the Himalayas and Southeast Asia. Specifically Buddhist lectures are listed below:

  • Jatakas: the Buddha's previous births in Indian art and literature - Mark Allon - 4th Sept.

  • Buddhist narrative in Tibetan literature - David Templeman - 11th Sept.

  • Chronicle of the Auspicious Era: a Nepalese account of the Buddha's life - Chaya Chandrasekhar - 18th Sept.

  • Romancing the tome: A Jataka tale in Javanese verse - Kate O'Brien - 25th Sept.

  • Vessantra Jataka: text as imagery in Cambodia and Thailand - Gill Green - 2nd Oct.
