2008 Seminar Series - Semester
2 | |
|
Dear list members,
The executive would like to issue a call for
presentations for AABS seminar series for semester 2 in 2008.
Besides the regular seminars which are usually held at 5.30pm
on the last Friday of each month, we have introduced a
'conversation' session (see below) held on a Wednesday in the
middle of the month.
Both are held alternately at the University of Western Sydney
or University of Sydney with discussion continuing after 7.00pm
over dinner at a local restaurant.
Simply
email us with your proposed title and preferred date.
Please note that dates and venues quoted below are preliminary
only.
Kind regards, AABS Executive |

Seminars are an opportunity for
the presentation of papers on all aspects of
Buddhist studies. In addition to our more
recent focus on early Buddhism, textual studies
and Buddhist philosophy, we encourage papers that
focus on Buddhism and:
- art
- archeology
- culture
- film
- modernity
- practice
Seminars are structured to allow for a 1 hour
presentation and half an hour discussion.
Post graduate 'works in progress' are particularly
encouraged. |
|
Conversations | |
|
Conversation sessions are an
opportunity for an open discussion amongst all
participants on issues such as:
- current work in progress
- latest scholarship
- teaching methods
- research tools and software
- field trips
Whilst the session will be chaired by an
executive member the opportunity is for an open
discussion of latest scholarship, tools and methods.
Each conversation will have an ostensible theme, but
one that is intended only as a departure point.
