The aim of the Australasian Association of Buddhist Studies is to promote the academic study of Buddhism in the Australasian region. It is anticipated this will be achieved:
- through the organization of events, such as seminars and conferences
- by making available information and resources relevant to Buddhist studies
- by fostering links between scholars and students within the region
- by fostering links between different disciplines working in the field of Buddhist studies
- by fostering links between local and international scholars
